Abstract: Rice strawbased particleboards(RSPB) were experimentally fabricated with modified MDI(MMDI) resin.Mechanical and dimensional properties including bending modulus(MOE) and strength(MOR),internal bond(IB) strength,inplane tensile modulus(ITM) and strength(ITS),2hour and 24hour thickness swelling(TS),and 24hour linear expansion(LE),were assessed.Potential influences of density(0.60,0.75,0.90 g/cm3),resin level(3%,4%,5%),and wax content(0~3.75%) were investigated. Results were compared with ANSI A208.1 for M3 woodbased particleboard. It’s shown that bending performance of RSPB denser 0.75 g/cm3 than satisfied the above standard, while IB strength achieved the minimum value specified in ANSI A208.1 only at 0.90 g/cm3 and with 5% MMDI.Waxsizing played an active role in dimensional stabilization, and no significant negativity was found in mechanical performance.
