Abstract: Variation of several physiological indices including the activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD) and peroxidase(POD),content of total soluble sugar, proline accumulation, relative conductivity of native Eremochloa ophiuroides and Zoysia japonica under trample stress was measured. The result showed that:(1)under trample stress, thickness of lawn, leaf length and width decreased dramatically.(2)relative conductivity, content of total soluble sugar and proline accumulation increased, the declined activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD) was found.(3)under trample stress, the content of total soluble sugar, proline accumulation between measured species were E.ophiuroides>Z.japonica.(4)based on the comperehensive analysis of physiological indices,it was concluded that E.ophiuroides was more tolerant to trample stress than Z.japonica.
