Abstract

The quantitative characters of 30 community plots at different successional stages were studied. The main results showed: (1)Species richness and species diversity of shrubtree stages were higher than those of arbor-tree stages, the evenness of the former were gradually higher than those of the latter, but ecological dominance increased in natural restoration process; (2)Communities of degraded Karst forests have usually 1~2 dominant species; (3)Biomass accumulated gradually with the natural succession process. Meanwhile, the biomass components of different communities changed continually. The average herb layer biomass and shrub layer biomass of shrub forests were higher than those of arbor forests, respectively 5.4 and 3.5 times higher than those of arbor forests; (4)The community continuum index could be used to reflect the roles of different communities in succession stages.
