Abstract: The tree height, DBH, individual volume, crown, height of the lowest branch, branching angle and number of shoot of 16 bald cypress (Taxodium distichum (L.)Rich) provenances were determined. The results were as follows= (1) There existed a significant variation of 16 provenances in tree height, DBH, individual volume, crown, height of the lowest branch, but the variations of the branching angle and number of shoot were not significant. The 9th and 6th provenance had highest height, DBH and volume, while the tree height, DBH and volume among 16th provenances was lowest. (2) The correlative analysis showed that there were significant positive relativity among the tree height, DBH, individual volume, crown and height of the lowest branch, but there was not obvious relativity between these indexes and branching angle and number of shoot. (3) The analysis results of heritability showed that the heritability of DBH of bald cypress was highest, and the heritability of the branching angle and number of shoot was lowest. (4)The 9th, 6th, 12th, 13th and 4th superior provenances were selected from the 16 provenances by using synthetical selection of multiple characters, and these five provenances had higher production after being cultivated.
