On the basis of analysis of the shortcomings of GIS, the paper provided the viewpoint that forest resource information management based on WebGIS was the trend of forest resource information management, then explored the principle and structure, and analyzed the realization technology of WebGIS and the shortcomings & advantages of the realization technology of WebGIS. Moreover the paper expanded application of forest resource information management based on WebGIS, especially the characters and superiority of the system. At last, some adviccs were given to set up the forest resource information management sys tern based on WebGIS:(1)to unify the data code; (2)to set the united WebGIS system, and to share the forest resource;(3)to manage more information about forest resource; (4)to change the thought of people.
