Abstract: The adsorptive behavior of Pb2+ and Cu2+ by humus was investigated. The result showed that the humus had a high adsorptive ability for Pb2+ and Cu2+ but there were significant difference. The humus has a much higher adsorptive ability on Pb2+ than on Cu2+. The adsorption isotherms of Cu2+ conform to Langmuir-equation was better than Freundlich-equation, but of Pb2+ both was well. According to the langmuir model, the maximum adsorption amount of Pb2+ and Cu2+ was 84.15mg/g and 13.09mg/g respectively. The former was 6.4 times of the latter. The pH value was the main factor affecting adsorption, humus at higher pH had a larger adsorption ability. The analysis of IR spectrum indicated that adsorption of Pb2+ and Cu2+ by humus caused the combination of carboxyl groups and hydroxy with heavy metal.
