Abstract: The electrocatalytic behavior of hydroquinone on glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with high surface area activated carbon (HSAAC) was investigated by cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance test. The results showed that the electrode reaction was controlled by a diffusion process. The HSAAC modified electrode presented high electrocatalytic activity to the redox reaction of hydroquinone. Comparing with the naked GCE, the currents of the anodic and cathodic peaks on the HSAAC modified electrode increased by 15.6 and 29.8 times, respectively. In the 0.1 mol/L HCl solution, the value of the anodic peak current increased linearly with the concentration of hydroquinone in the range of 001—7 mmol/L, which could be expressed by the equation: Ipa=9×10-6+5×10-8×C, R2=0996 7.
