Prediction model of mechanical properties of parallel strand lumber

Abstract

Based on the elasticity energy principle, the mechanical model of parallel strand lumber was established to forecast the strength of materials. The one-way thin-layer composite material was pressed to verify the correctness of the energy principle predicting scope. The results show that this model can give a high precision of prediction compared with other geometric models. The prediction range has a high precision, especially when the hot pressing is lower than 5 MPa based on the elasticity energy principle. Because of short horizontal lap, the MOE perpendicular to grain was lower than the floor level of prediction range. But in the actual production, this situation hardly existed. The prediction of MOE parallel to grain and aspect shear modulus were well fitted with the testing result.
