Abstract: It has long been a dream of the pencil industry that pencil sticks could be made of the types of wood which has rich resources. This study is based on full knowledge of the properties of Pinus massoniana Lamb. By means of selecting the right material and improving techniques, a good degreasing rate and reduction of mechanical strength after being boiled have been obtain. The wood hardness andhydroscopic ratio after being dried drop by 45.1% and 50.0% respectively. The series of treatment increases the stability of Finus Massoniana Lamb, thus meeting the requirements of pencil stick making.Every 10,000 pencil boards use up 0.6m3 of wood. The minimum qualification ratio of the pencil sticks is 91.7%, and the maximum 98.9% with an average of 95%. And the minimum qualification ratio of the final products is 96.2% and the maximum 99.4%, with an average of 97.4%. The utilization ratio has increased over 6 % due to the decrease of loss during drying. The success of this study will be of important significance in developing wood pencil production in our country.
