Abstract: In this paper, the bearing properties of dowel parallel to grain were studied based on dimension, bolt diameter and moisture content as test parameters. The results showed that there was no dimension effect on the dowelbearing strength when the dimensions reach the minimum requirements. The stiffness increased with thickness increasing, but it was not affected by length. With the bolt diameter increasing, the tested dowelbearing strength showed a decreasing trend, however, the stiffness showed an increasing trend and became more constant when the bolt diameters were bigger than 12 mm. In addition, the dowelbearing strength and stiffness decreased with moisture content increasing, and they became constant gradually when the moisture content was up to 17%.
