Abstract: Endophytic bacteria colonizes in healthy plant tissue, and formes a harmonious relationship with their hosts during a long coevolutionary process. Endophytic bacteria has been widely used in biological control of plant disease due to a variety of biological functions, such as disease resistance, growth promotion, nitrogen fixation, bioremediation and so on. In recent years, the biological control potential and integrated control effect of endophytic bacteria have been enhanced by the technology of genetic engineering. This paper summarized the research achievements of endophytic bacteria at home and abroad, involving the aspects of concept, classification, identification methods of endophytic bacteria, and the interaction of endophytic bacteria with their hosts. Moreover, the phytoremediation capacity of endophytic bacteria, the potential applications and problems of endophytic bacteria on agricultural and forestry biocontrol were mainly discussed.
