Abstract: To guide the application of Euro-American ornamental crabapples in northern China, a comprehensive evaluation model of ornamental crabapples was established by analytic hierarchy process(AHP). Application value of 36 cultivars(species)were evaluated by using 15 factors which were selected according to ornamental value, ecological adaptation and cold resistance. The results showed that: flower color, blooming season, fruiting phase and fruit color were major factors affecting the application value of ornamental crabapples. According to this model, 36 crabapples were classified into four grades. Six cultivars(species)were selected as the first grade indicating the highest application value, seventeen in the second grade belonging to the higher application value and eleven in the third grade belonging to common application value. Two cultivars ‘Royalty’ and ‘Tina’ obtained low scores implying lower value for market application. These data will be useful to the resource appraisal, application and parental choice in the breeding program for Euro-American ornamental crabapples.
