Abstract: This paper discusses the control of damping-off of Pinus massoniana seedlings with carbendazim, phosetyl Al and melataxyl. The causal agents of the disease were determined to be chiefly Rhizoctonia solani and Fusarium spp. Results from pot-experiments in greenhouse and tests in the field demonstrated that carbendazim was most effective, without any harm to the host and mycorrhizal forma tion; phosetyl Al gave some partial protection against the disease; and mela taxyl made little or no evident effect at all. For damping-off control in forest nurseries, this paper recommends spreading a mixture of 5gms of carbendazim (25% wettable powder) and l000gms of fine soil for every square meter of the seed bed before sowing or spraying a suspension of 500ppm carbendazim at the rate of 1125 L/ha 2-3 times every 7 days after the emergence of seedlings.
