Abstract: In order to find out the feasibility of developing fast growing, high yielding forests out of young and middle-aged stands of Chinese fri, experiments have been carried out in large areas in many localities since 1980. A stand of young and middle-aged Chinese fir of 9618mu has been tended with a variety of technical measures such as selective cutting, deep-digging, manuring, etc. As a result, an average volume of 7.225m3 per mu and an annual growth of 0.787m3 have been obtained in forests at an average age of 9.2 years, which reached the growth target set for the newly selected fast growing, hight yrelding forests of Chinese fir.
