Numerical simulation and optimization of the velocity field in wood drying kiln

Abstract

To improve the uniformity of wind velocity field in wood drying kiln so as to improve wood drying quality, Fluent was taken to simulate and analyze the wind velocity field in wood drying kiln. The optimal velocity was measured and got under the conditions that the distance between the wood stack and the wood kiln wall was 0.30 m, and the air velocity of the fan were 2.0 m/s, 3.0 m/s and 4.0 m/s, respectively. Experimental results were verified at the optimal velocity under the conditions that the distance between the wood stack and the wood kiln wall were 0.25 m, 0.30 m and 0.35 m, respectively. Results showed that the uniform wind velocity field could be obtained under the conditions that the fan velocity was 3.0 m/s and the distance between the wood stack and the wood kiln wall was 0.30 m.Few discrepancy between simulation and the experiment existed. The Fluent software could be taken to simulate and optimize the air velocity in wood drying kiln.
