Abstract: In order to understand the effects of heating treatment on tensile properties of palm fibers, two factorial experiments were performed in the study at various temperature levels(from 100 to 200 ℃ with an increment of 20 ℃)and time(3, 6 and 9 h). The test results showed that the heating temperature exerted extremely significant influence on tensile properties of palm fibers, and higher heating temperature led to higher Young's modulus, lower breaking strength and elongation at break. The tensile properties of palm fibers changed sharply in the range of 160-180 ℃. The Young's modulus of palm fibers increased, and the breaking strength and elongation at break decreased with longer heating time. The influence of heating time was also significant.
