Abstract: 【Objective】Through the analysis and comparison of the volatile chemical constituents of the Phoebe hui Cheng ex Yang and Lauraceae Phoebe Nees and similar tree species, the difference among these wood species was summed up.【Method】The method of solid phase microextraction and GC-MS analysis were used to analyse the volatile chemical constituents of wood.【Result】The total ion flow graphs and corresponding peak retention time of volatile components of the Phoebe hui Cheng ex Yang wood in different districts are basically the same, and the correlation coefficient of relative peak area is large and significant. The volatile components of the Phoebe hui Cheng ex Yang wood are mainly terpenoids and all of them were found to contain the following seven characteristic compounds: 3,7-guaiadiene, α-amorphene, δ-cadinene, tetradecanal, elemol, guaiazolene and 7-acetyl-2-hydroxy-2-methyl-5-isopropylbicyclo[4,3,0]nonane. Compared with Lauraceae Phoebe Nees and similar tree species, the volatile components of Phoebe hui Cheng ex Yang are significantly different, this feature can be used as an reference frame to distinguish the Phoebe hui Cheng ex Yang wood from others.【Conclusion】The GC-MS analysis of volatile components of the Phoebe hui Cheng ex Yang wood can be used as a new method for identifying wood species. However, the requirement must include seven characteristic compounds, the retention time is basically the same, and the correlation coefficient must be greater than 0.750.
