Distribution of Corythucha marmorata in Nanjing and its risk analysis in China

Abstract:

【Objective】 The aim of this study was to investigate the current distribution of Corythucha marmorata (Uhler) and the damage it caused in Nanjing City, and to assess its potential distribution and invasion risk in China. 【Method】 Field investigation was conducted to identify the insect distribution in parks, squares, and greenways in eight main urban areas of Nanjing. MaxEnt model combined with the geographic information system (ArcGIS) was used to predict the potential distribution ofC. marmorata in China. The multi-index evaluation system was used to determine the invasion risk of C. marmorata based on five hierarchies including introduction possibility, colonization, diffusion, the economic value of host, and difficulty in risk management, as well as 18 indicators. 【Result】 C. marmorata was found in all invested areas of Nanjing, endangering the weed of Compositae. However, it did not cause severe damage toDendranthema morifolium. The potential distribution of C. marmorata accounted for about 40% of China. The score of C. marmorata was 2.05 in the aforementioned evaluation system, which indicated it belonged to high risk pests in China. 【Conclusion】 C. marmorata is widely distributed in Nanjing. It has a wide range of distribution and poses a big risk to China. Thus, it is crucial to monitor this insect and avoid it from spreading further.
