Abstract:

【Objective】 The purpose of this study is to analyze the complementation with management technology characteristics of adopting new fruit tree varieties and reveal the decision-making logic of farmers in adopting new fruit tree varieties. We aim to provide a reference for guiding the adoption of fruit tree varieties, promoting the sustainable development of follow-up industries and consolidating the achievements of conversion from farmland to forest.【Method】 Based on the theoretical analysis of the influence mechanism of farmers’ technical endowments on the decision-making behavior of adopting new varieties, using micro survey data of 397 farmers in Sichuan and Chongqing, China, we analyzed differences among and reasons for farmers with different technical endowments’ adoption behavior of new varieties through the IVProbit and IVTobit models.【Result】 The level of economic fruit forest management technology of farmers returning farmland to forest is generally not high, and there are significant differences among farmers. The level of management technology has a positive impact on the adoption of new varieties. Farmers with higher levels of management technology are more likely to adopt new varieties. The level of management technology has a positive impact on the period and the intensity of adopting new varieties. Farmers with a higher level of management technology are characterized by “catching up with the new” in adopting varieties. 【Conclusion】 Effective measures to improve the management technology of farmers who have returned farmland to forest are conducive to the renewal of varieties and the healthy development of the follow-up industry.
