Cryptomeria japonica ‘Fupang’: a new cultivar of C. japonica

Abstract:

Cryptomeria japonica ‘Fupang’ is a new cultivar selected from the natural variation seedlings of C. japonica. It is a dwarf shrub, with strong sprouting ability and narrow oval crown. The male flowering period is from the end of February to the beginning of March. The male strobiles are long elliptic, short spikes, and the female flowers few or none. It has high ornamental value and could be suitable for growing in low hilly area of Sichuan Basin 400-1 200 m, which can be also cultivated as the indoor ornamental plant.
