Abstract: It is a spectacular problem in agricultural science in the recent years using 2, 4- D or enzymatic treatment to induce nodulation and nitrogen fixation of non- leguminous crops. If it is possible, that nodulation of non-legumes induced by 2,4-D or enzymatic treatment, it seems more probable that nodulation of non-nodulated tree legumes will be induced by 2,4-D or enzymatic treatment. The latter is still easier of approach, to say the least on the relationship of cosanguinity. We followed the procedures mentioned above with some modification. Experiments were carried out with non-nodulated tree legume- Gleditsia melanacantha reported in this paper. The result showed that Gleditsia root nodule could be induced by 1 ppm. of 2,4-D but not the enzymatic treatment, however, no nitrogenase activities of these nodules were examined by acetylene reduction method. Induced nodules show that these lack the characteristic color, texture, zonal tissue differentiation, and cortical outgrowth of rhizobial nodules. Such hypertrophies are rather blunt, deformed modified rootlets than induced nodules. It was not confirmed that whether the nodules contained rhizobia or not by microscopic examination, but we had failed on isolation of any rhizobial like bacteria from these nodular structures.
