Abstract: This paper tested vigour of 14 seed lots collected from three families in Chinese fir orchard, acceleratively aged in temperature of 40℃ and relative humidity of nearly 100% for 1-5 days, with conductivity, respiration, germination index, vigour index, simplified vigour index. It was found that germination index was the best vigour test for Chinese fir seeds because it not only indicated the number of germinated seeds, but also classified the germinated seeds into n classes, in which n is the number of days of germination period. Vigour index also could express the change of deteriorating seed vigour accurately. Simplified vigour index was proved to be the total length of seedlings germinated by 100 seeds. Conductivity and respiration could in some certains present the differences among seed lots, but were not good vigour tests for Chinese fir seeds.
