Abstract: To evaluate the effect of nitrogen(N)applied amount on the quality of Pinus tabulaeformis container seedlings, exponential fertilization regime with seven different fertilizer gradients of 10, 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, 120 mg per plant was used during a growing season in the greenhouse. When seedlings received 100 mg fertilizer per plant, height, diameter, biomass, N content, the number of needle primordial, and rate of qualified seedlings all achieved the maximum. Compared with the 100 mg per plant treatment, both diameter and the number of needle primordial decreased significantly as the nitrogen applied amount increased to 120 mg per plant. Rate of qualified seedlings could not meet the national standard consistently when the nitrogen applied amount was no more than 60 mg per plant, mainly resulting from the reduced height.
