Abstract: Physical and chemical properties of urban green space soils from different functional areas in Xuzhou city were studied by field investigation and laboratory analysis. The results showed that the average soil bulk density from 0 to 20 cm soil layer in Xuzhou city was 1.25 g/cm3, 1.33 g/cm3 from 20 to 40 cm, and 60% of soil bulk density were too high, soil bulk density would affect on the growth of plants to some extent. The urban green space soils in Xuzhou were generally alkaline, 93% of the soils pH varied from 7.5 to 8.5. Soil organic matter, total nitrogen and available phosphorus were low, available potassium was rich. Soil integrated fertility index(P)from 0 to 20cm varied in the order of park green space(1.45), protective green space(1.42), road green space(1.37), production green space(1.18), roadside green space(1.17)and attached green space(1.07). Soil integrated fertility from 0 to 20 cm of all the functional areas was medium(1.0<P<1.5). Soil integrated fertility from 20 to 40 cm of protective green space, park green space and roadside green space were medium, other three green space soil were lower(P<1.0).
