Abstract: The renewable lignocellulosic sources for biocomposites has been received much attention in recent years because of shortage of forest resources and environment concerns. However, serious challenges have been encountered with the production of biocomposites from crop straws, because their surfaces are covered with the hydrophobic noncellulosic components including wax, silica and lipophilic extractives. A large number of surface treatment methods on straws have been made to improve its surface wettability. This paper reviewed several different treatments on straw, including mechanical, hot water, physical, chemical and biological treatment. Comparing with above the treatments, the low temperature plasm treatment was the most suitable for straw utilization.
