Effects of thinning on the soil enzyme activity in the Pinus massoniana Lamb. plantation

Abstract: The soil enzyme activities were studied in 25 years old Pinus massoniana plantation at Lishui Forest Farm in Nanjing which were imposed light(25%), moderate(45%)and strong(65%)intensity thinning treatments six years ago. The result showed that thinning had an ascending function on soil enzyme activities, but the effects varied under different thinning intensity. Light thinning intensity enhanced invertase and hydrogen peroxide activities mostly in October and December, and increased alkaline phosphatase activity mostly in December. The effects of moderate intensity were more obvious in the other period. As to 25-year-old P.massoniana plantation, soil enzyme activity could be improved with middle intensive thining, therefore, utilization of soil nutrient in P.massoniana plantation could be increased.
