Abstract: The fiber morphologies of six variation types of Neosinocalamus affinis(Rendle)Keng f. at Qingshen county of Sichuan province were investigated and compared each other, and their utilization value were also examined. The average length of fibers of six variation types was all longer than 1.6 mm, and longer than that of Moso except ‘Luohanci’. The maximum frequency of fiber length distribution of N.affinis, Neosinocalamus affinis cv. flavidorivens and ‘Shetouci’, was within 2.0-3.0 mm, and that of other variations was within 1.0-2.0 mm. The average length/width ratio of different variations except for ‘Luohanci’ was bigger than 100, and bigger than that of Moso. The average wall/lumen ratio of all fiber type was from 1.77 to 3.96, and smaller than that of Moso. Longitudinally, the variation rules of fiber length, width, and length/width ratio and lumen of all variation types, were different among different variation types, but that of fiber wall thickness and wall/lumen ratio were similar. Radically, the variation rules of all fiber morphological indexes of all variation types were similar, and the length and lumen of fibers in the inner part of culm wall were all bigger than that in the outer, but the fiber width, length/width ratio, and wall thickness and wall/lumen ratio in inner part were all smaller than that in the outer. The results showed that they are good for paper-making except for ‘Luohanci’, and the property for making the pulp and paper of N. affinis cv. flavidorivens is the best.
