Abstract: The outer and inner kins of bamboo were treated with NaOH respectively, and the related performance of the panels manufactured with the outer and inner kins of bamboo before and after treatment were compared. Test results indicated that the MOE and MOR of the panels which made up with treated bamboo strips were higher than untreated, and density changed a little. No matter Ⅰ or Ⅱ kind of stripping rate reduced significantly. It indicated that bonding performance of bamboo skin treated with NaOH was better than untreated one. Above all, the improvement of mechanical performance which caused by the improvement of the bonding performance was higher than strength loss caused by chemical treatment. The chemical composition of outer and inner skins before and after treatment was analyzed with FTIR, and the analysis result verified that the content of fatty substances and SiO2 were both reduced after treatment.
