Changes of Ca2+ level and soluble sugar content in cells of Ilex L. leaflets under low temperature stress

Abstract: In this paper, two years old seedlings of four types of IlexבNellie R.Steven’, I.dabieshannensis, I.× mersevae ‘Blue Gir’, I.×mersevae ‘Blue Boy’ were placed in different low temperature condition, the changes of Ca2+ level in the cells of Ilex L. leaf and changes of soluble sugar content under chilling stress were studied. The results showed that:as the temperature decreased, Ca2+ gradually transfered and deposits added in the cells of Ilex L. Leaf for all the tested samples, their membrane systems, organelle structure stabilities and nucleus structures were damaged at different degree and soluble sugar content showed an upward trend. The results revealed that cold resistance of four culttings from strong to weak were I.בNellie R.Steven’>I. mersevae ‘Blue Gir’>I. mersevae ‘Blue Boy’>I. dabieshanensis.
