Abstract: The genus Juglans was one of the most important economic tree species in China as woody oil plants and timber trees. Beside the sensory quality of nut fruits studied, the developing and utilizing of abundant secondary metabolites were also concerned greatly. In order to know about the distribution and function of polyphenols in the Juglans plants, the ways of extraction and separation of polyphenols from Juglans, and the current research of medical efficacy of polyphenols in both home and abroad, were summarized and reviewed in this paper. Moreover, this paper was expected to give some theoretical directions for the industrialization development of polyphenols in the Juglans.
