Abstract: In this work, maleic anhydride grafted polypropylenee(MAH-g-PP)as coupling agent was added to high density polyethylene(HDPE)and bamboo flour(BF)composites which were processed by internal mixer and hot-pressing technology. The results showed that the properties of composites were significantly improved after adding MAH-g-PP. The optimum additive amount is 5%, at this level, the values of hygroscopicity and water absorption of composites were the smallest, and the values of modulus of rupture(MOR)and modulus of elasticity(MOE)were increased by 68% and 30.4%, respectively. The tensile strength and impact strength were increased by 53.7% and 75%, respectively. However, when the additive amount of MAH-g-PP reached 8%, the values of MOR, tensile strength and impact strength decreased. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR)confirmed that the grafting reaction happened between free hydroxyls of bamboo flour and acid anhydride of MAH-g-PP.
