Abstract: The microsporogenesis and development of male gametophytes of Osmanthus fragrans‘Wanyingui’ were studied by paraffin-embedded sectioning and photomicrography technique. The results showed that each floret of inflorescence usually has two fertile stamens, few have three. Each anther has four locules. The development of anther walls was classified as dicotyledonous, and the tapetum was of glandular heterotypic, its cells had one or two nuclears. The meiosis of microspore mother cell was synchronous or asynchronous. There were obvious asynchronous phenomenon in the different pollen sac, and the phenomenon covered all of the period. In addition even found asynchronous phenomenon in a same pollen sac occasionally, and considered that because of poor coordination within the anther development. The cytokinesis was simultneaous type. The microspore tetrad was tetrahedral more, minority fordecussate. Maturepollen grains were 2-celledtype, nearly round and with three grooves. Occasionally there were abortive phenomenons during the development.
