Abstract

Chemical compositions of four species of Eucalyptus (E. tsaaulyuh no. 2, E. citriodora, E. exserta, E. Leizhou no. 1) in Leizhou peninsula were analyzed and morphology of their fibers were measured. Pulping properties for the four species of Eucalyptus were preliminarily studied through the kraft process. The results indicated that the pulp yield decreased obviously in the following order: E. citriodora, E. tsaauulyuh no. 2, E. Leizhou no, 1 and E.exserta. The pulping properties of E. citriodora is good or better, but E. exserta is not for pulping. Subsequently, a series of tests on E. citriodora in soda-anthraquinone and kraft-anthraqu inone pulping were carried out and the optimum conditios for soda-anthraquinone pulping were found out. The mechanism of the role of anthra-quinone in accelerating delignification and improving yield in alkaline pulping was also reviewed.
