Both "Chiral" and "Pseudoasymmetric Carbon" are fundamental concepts ia stereochemistry. They are dealt with and are vividly illustrated with concrete compounds in the teaching of organic chemistry, which is very important.The concept of "Prochiral" involves a very wide field and the concepts of "Enan-tiotopic" and "Diastereotopic" are derived from it. But these concepts are neither a summing up of new rules nor a further generalization of the established ones. The author holds that these concepts can only lead to confusions when the structure and mechanisms of organic compounds are discussed. So it would be preferable to abandon them, at least in the field of organic chemistry.The configurational analysis of "Pseudoasymmetric Carbon" can also be applied to the cyclic compounds and it is very interesting when it is connected with cis-trans isomerism.
