An investigation of flowering characteristics of goldenlrach (Pseudolarix ama-bilis (Nelson) Rehd) made in 1984 in three plantations in Nanjing and Yixin. Jiangshu province showed that between individual plants there were significant differences in the number of male and female strobili anb their ratios, in the length of pollen grains and in the pollen germination percentage. It appeared that the germination behavior of goldenlarch pollen grains followed the similar pattern of those of Douglas fir (Pscudotsuga menziesii) and larch (Larix sibirica) that they could not germinate on agar with sucrose but did very well on brewbaker and Kwack’s media. A brief discussion on the selection and breading of goldenlarch according to its flowering characteristics is made.
