Abstract: Lichuan County in southwest Hupch province is well-known in scientific and learned circles both at home and abroad for the discovery of Metasequoia in 1940s. 1289 numbers of specimens were collected during a comprehensive botanical exploration in the county from 1947 through 1948. These collections were sent to Dr. E. D. Merrill, head of the Arnold Arboretum in Harvad, U. S. A., who did not study them before his death. An article entitled "The Metasequoia Flora and Its Phytogeographic Significance" by Dr. S. Y. Hu, professor of Harvard was published in the journal of the Arnold Arboretum in 1980 (Vol. 61:41-94 1980).Further studies were made of the specimens mentioned above and stored in the herbarium of our University. By checking the numbers cited by Dr. Hu with those on the specimens, many mistakes on taxonomy were found in her article. For example, about 150 species were wrongly named. Keteleeria davidi-ana and pseudotsuga sinensis were identified as Torreya grandis; Cleyea japonica identified as Ilex elmerrilliana, Castanopsis eyrei as Sycopsis sinensis and Lagers-troemia subcostala as Chimananthus praecox, and so on. A revision of the names of these species is made in the paper. The majority of the specimens cited in this paper are from the herbarium of our university.
