Abstract: 19 clones were first selected from F1 progeny of I-69 poplar × Simon poplar intersectional hybrids and 11 clones from F1 progeny of I-69 poplar ×Nigra poplar interspecial hybrids. In the former, hh2 is 86.0211%; hd2, 85.1068%; hv2, 76.4196%; GCVh, 15.8371%; GCVd, 17.5931% andGCVv, 41.7448%, while inthe latter hh2 is 86.6561%; hd2, 96.6488%, hv2, 88.0213%; GCVh, 17.0832%;GCVa, 18.8078% and GCVv, 42.9045%. The results indicated that it is possible to select excellent poplar clones from these populations.Genotypic, phenotypic and environmental correlation coefficients were highly significant in height, diameter and volume. This indicated that any one of the three growth characters was decisive on the selection of excellent clones. Finally, 5 clones were further selected from the 19 selected clones and 6 clones from the 11 selected ones mentioned above, and their genotypic gain was estimated.
