Abstract: Masson’s pine (Pinus massoniana Lamb) wood is an important structural wood in southern China. But its uses are rcstricted because it is susceptible to fungi and insects, moreover, its dimension will be changed when the wood moisture content is varied. This study attempts to improve the decay tesista-nce, dimensional stability and other mechanical strengths of masson’s pine wood by being imprognated with low polymeric phenol formaldeyde resin. La-boratory tests indicate that modified wood has an excellent decay resistance and dimensional stability. Other mechanical strengths are evidently improved.
