Abstract: Based on the principles of forst ecology, resemblance and divergence of forest site conditions, coastal physical geography law, and remotely sensed images processed by computer and visual interpretation, protected forest site classification and evaluation on three different experiment coast sections were systematically researched by remote sensing. These sections arc mud flat coast sections in Dongtai, Jiangsu Province, rock estuary coast section in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province, and sand coast section in Changlc, Fujian Province. This paper has raised a method which deals with protected forest site classification and appraisal on the coastal zones by remote sensing; developed a new technique with which forest site can automatically be classified by using spatial data and remote sensing information; designed a microcomputcrized forest site information management system. These experimental results arc proved to have practical values.
