An investigation in Shandou Seed Orchard from 1987 to 1990 showed that the flowering intensity and the number of female buds in a message segment in crown could be used as an index to predict the cone crop of Chinese fir about ten months ahead of collection, which greatly satisfied very well the requirement of middle term prediction. A cone crop rating table based on flowering intensity was presented and a prediction model based on the number of female buds in message segment in crown was formulated.
