Abstract: A variant strain Erwinia chrgsanthemi 201 with high alkalophilic pectinolytic enzymes was obtained after screening and induced mutaion. As compared with the orginal strain, the endo-polygalacturonase (endo-PG) productivity course of variant strain was more rapid, the endo-PG activity for 12 h has increased by 4 times. Experiments indicted the organism E. chrysanthemi 201 was capable of rapid alkaline retting of kenaf, a promissing strain for biopulping.
