Abstract

Fiber properties, chemical components and pulpabilities of four species of Juvenile MassonPine (Pinus massiniana Lamb. ) of 11 years old were .studied and a primary evaluation about pulpabilities was made. Compared with the nature Masson pine of 30 years old, the juvenile has shorter average fiber length, smaller length/width ratio, higher lignin content and similar holocellnlose content. With the same pulp-hardness (Kappa number 30), the juvenile requires higher alkali charge and woodconsumption. The juvenile’s bleachabilities are nearly the same as the mature’ by the common CEHbleaching process and with the same amount of chlorine. As a result, the juvenile cell wall is thinner, beatability better and fiber bonding higher. Their pulp pubesses the same breaking length and burst index as the mature’s, but fear index is lower.
