Abstract: The investigation and analyses were carried out in 13 years old(1984~1996)Tsoong’s tree (Tsoongiodendron odorum Chun)and Chinese fir (Cunninghamia lanceolata Hook) mixed forests to compare the influences on soil properties among different interplanting types as an individual tree-individual tree,row-row, row-strip and pure Chinses fir stands in Jianou City, Fujian Province, south east part of China. It was found, compared with the pure stands of Chinsese fir, that the mixed stands exerted positive impaces on soil fertility, and resulted in the increasing of soil organic matter, total N, available P and available K. Moreover, the improving of soil enzymatic activities, aggregate structrue, structure stability, status of soil porosity, aeration and penetrability were also observed in the mixed stands. The row-row interplanted stands of Tsoong’s tree and Chinese fir demonstrated the best among these mixture types. The authors believed that the spreading of the mixture system of these two tree species especially the row_row mixture model would be helpful to reclaim the soil from deterioration under pure Chinese fir, which was frequently reported recently in southern China.
