Abstract: 16 woodworking firms have been studied with a method of empirical research.A checklist for valuating the safety and health condition of workplaces in wood industry has been worked out. Some criterions for this valuation have been made.Under a field condition 129 workplaces have been observed with an interview with the workers at the workplace.Noise and wooddust concentration in the air at the different workplaces in two departments for furniture and chipboard production have been measured. The research shows that the situation in aspect of noise, the accident endangering related with workobjects, and personal protection measure at the workplaces are particularly critical. There are much more safety and health problems discovered at the workplaces for furniture production than at any other workplaces in the woodworking firms.
