Abstract: There are abundant economic salttolerant plants on the coastal zone of China. They mainly include the salsuginous plants screened by the coastal saline environment and the saltenduring species bred with intentional introduction and domestication. There are 517 species which belong to 115 families and 359 genera of salttolerant plants that have a potential economic value. Of them 436 species are medical plants, 83 are fibrous plants, 50 are oil and resin plants, 152 are forage grasses. Besides those, there are some honey plants and ornamental plants on the coastal zone of China. On the basis of review of the economic salttolerant plant resource, this paper puts forward some advice for the exploitation and utilization of them, hoping to provide some basic data and scientific basis for further exploiting salt-tolerant plant resources, developing the saline soil agriculture and making full use of the tidal flat resources in China.
