Abstract: The new afforestation technology of PCFCB (Plant the Chinese Fir by Conserving the Broadleaf trees regenerated naturally) in cutting blank was established in 1985. In order to assess this technology, the indexes like the height, diameter at breast height (DBH), the stand volume and the growth process of the trees in mixed stand were analyzed in comparison with those in the pure Chinese Fir stand which was established by traditional burning cutting blank. The results show that in first 10 years the indexes listed above in the both stands had reached a "fast grow and high yield standard" in average. But the indexes in pure Chinese Fir stand were better than in the mixed stand in general. Especially in the juvenile stage, the growth of DBH in the mixed stand was less than in the pure one. However, the growth rate of the indexes in the mixed stand increased when the stand entered the mature stage. From ninth year the DBH growth rate began to decrease, but it was lower in mixed stand than in the pure one. The height growth was not influenced evidently by different afforestation methods. It is estimated that the stock volume in mixed stand will be near to or over that in the pure stand. The deduction demonstrated the advantages of afforestation in cutting blank to cultivate the Chinese Fir by conserving the natural regenerated broadleaf trees.
