Abstract

Cycas rumphii , name South China Cycad in Chinese, was erroneously thought long to be a cycad which often distibutes or is cultivated widely in southern China. The research showes that C.rumphii does not distribute in China and only is scarcely cultivated. The so called South China Cycad actually means misidentification of C.taiwaniana, C.fairylakea or C.szechuanensis etc.The name South China Cycad should be abandoned while the earlier Chinese name Spiny Leaflet Cycad of C.rumphii should be restored.
