Abstract: The author has analyzed the causes and impacts of environmental problems such as global climatic change, acid rain and biodiversity extinction and also described the ways how to solve them, Meanwhile, the author has summarized important roles played by forests in the carbon balance maintainance of the biosphere, soil and water conservation, desertation control, biodiversity conservation and the environmental quality improvement in urban areas. The sustainable development of forestry could be realized only by the protection and appropriate uses of forest resources.
