On the basis of the investigation and observation of morphological characteristics of Malus(Crab apple) in eastern China and the earlier research achievements of cultivar classification in Malus.,the cultivar classification principles and criteria are presented in this paper. The branches straight or pendulous are considered as the first grade criterion,the flower size and type are considered as the second grade criterion,the third grade classification criterion is the foliage colour,flowering period. The pedicel straight or pendulous and fruit or fruitless after flowering etc.Finally,27 cultivars of Malus halliana Koehne are described in this paper.
