Ethanol Continuous Fermentation of Pentose and Hexose by Pichia stipitis

Abstract

Pichia stipitis P_2 was grown in single-stage or two-stage continuous culture with mixtures of 30 g/L glucose and 15 g/L xylose.The single working volume of the two reactors was 1.5 L,approximately.At a dilution rate of 0.06 h~(-1) in single-stage culture,ethanol productivity reached a maximum of 0.790 g/(L·h),while the ethanol concentration in the effluent was 13.16 g/L and the consumption ratio of substrate was 77.51%.When the influent speed was at 60 mL/h or so,the ethanol concentration in the effluent was 13.23~14.85 g/L,and the consumption ratio of substrate was 83.23%~84.37%.
